Lewis's vehicle started out as a 1970 2.6litre petrol model but after a friend got 60mph out of it in low-ratio down the M25 it needed a transplant! A Perkins 4.203 engine out of a 1971 Series 3 was chosen for the job. This had the advantage of raising fuel consumption from an original 11mpg to 24mpg When the rusted chassis finally gave up Lewis started his rebuild. He replaced it with the chassis that came with the Perkins engine and had it galvanised. A replacement bulkhead was also fitted and the original 4.7 diffs were replaced with 3.54 units. The photos here show the rebuilding in progress. He's working on updating it so periodic revisits are worthwhile. You'll also find something of interest if you are into railway engines and/or organic gardening.
